Makarora

Next day we should have got to a lake which looks something like the postcard I'm holding. Due to the ever changing weather of New Zealand (its perfectly normal to experience all four seasons in one day) our view of the mountains behind the lake didn't really exist!

We also stopped at a waterfall, getting a great picture of the gang all standing on one leg this time - rather than just me on one leg as usual! Well actually the gang minus Sam who had taken the previous night's partying a little too seriously and had needed to remain at Franz Joseph for a day of straying no further than 5 metres from the toilet!

After Merris and I had given up trying to swim the glacial river at our lunch stop, and instead just froze ourselves in the nearby rockpool we headed for a quiet stop at Makarora to refresh ourselves. That meant chilling in-and-out of another ice-cold pool and introducing Frenchie (Guillaum) to some real English cuisine in the form of the chip buttie! His face was an absolute picture of disgust! A bit of pool and piano playing and we were ready for sleepover-style night of chatting in the room about pretty much nothing.

Next morning on the bus I thought it necessary to also introduce Frenchie to the crisp buttie mwuahhahaha!
