Will I eve be on time??!
So...er...yeh...after another day of travelling and annoying the girls with such great hits as "sitting on a bus, on the way to the airport" (don't worry we'll send you a vid soon) we managed to leave Bangkok a little late kind of end up at the Cambodian border past closing time! D'oh. All was not lost though...we went the next day and only got charged 500Baht (idiots) for overstaying! Then we had one of the bumpiest taxijourneys of our lifes and it lasted around 4 hours down dirt roads. Just like Africa it didn't seem to matter where you drove...and basically if it comes down to it and you're going for a head-on with a moped its ok cos they'll come of worse so they WILL give way first! Mentallists!
Got seriously educated that evening when the Swiss girls we'd got the taxi with suggested going to a concert by this doctor who plays the cello and provides free healthcare to children in Cambodia. Was very interesting and some amazing work that he does, though some of his views on the way healthcare should be administered seem to rely on infinite funds...but then I guess he is Swiss! www.beatocello.com has more information no doubt...but some pretty staggering facts of 600,000 visits, 55,000 admissions, 9,000 operations 100,000 vaccinations and 5,500 births show the scale of the work they do! He was also very good at cello, though having never been to a cello solo concert ever I'm no expert but it was definitely enterttaining! Oh and Martin and I both donated $10 each which was $9 more than a load of aged 30+ western professionals were donating so we have clearly earned some good deed points there! ...stingy professionals!!
Cambodia does proper bread - must be the French influence but its divine after the complete lack of it in Thailand!!
Next day we chilled and then ended up in a Fondu/Soup restaurant that evening which was awesome. Basically they give you Onion soup and then you add stuff to it categorised into such things as meat (beef) and vegetables (green-bell pepper plant). Tasted great though with some eggs and noodles too.
